Françoise Demulder, born in Paris in 1947, was one of the most famous women photojournalists at the end of the 20th century, working for major French & International press agencies. She began by covering the Vietnam War and the fall of Saigon, then went to other crisis spots around the world, going from war to war: Angola, Lebanon, Cambodia, Ethiopia.... She also covered the first Gulf War in 1991 and the Israeli-Palestine war. Her striking photograph from La Quarantaine refugee camp in Beirut in January 1976 made her the first woman "World Press" award laureate in 1977. She returned to several countries she had known in wartime, such as Cambodia & Vietnam, for more peaceful photo reports on daily life. She died in Paris in September 2008. Roger-Viollet started to represent her Photographic archives in 1999. It is since 2010 the exclusive distributor of Françoise Demulder’s work.
