Bruno de Monès was born in 1952 and grows up in Marocco. Back in France after his baccalauréat, he dedicated himself to photography, first as a fashion photographers' assistant then as a contributor to various fashion houses. In 1976, he started working on a series of portraits of personalities of the world of cinema, entertainment, fashion and the arts. During his long collaboration with the "Magazine Littéraire", which started in 1983, he produced a series of portraits of the most famous French intellectuals and writers of the last decades of the 20th century. After a return to fashion photography in Japan in the late 1980's, he is now a film director. Roger-Viollet is the exclusive worldwide distributor of his portraits, published as a monograph in 1983.
