After being a Resistance fighter during WWII, Alain Adler, born in Hungary in 1907, became an editor at the newspaper « Renouveau » in 1945. He quickly focused on photography and worked with the film magazines « Ciné-Révélation », « Les Editions Mondiales », « Regards » and « L'Avant-Garde ». From 1954 to 1964, he worked on many film sets. That decade was quite rich in productions, from the beginnings of the French New Wave with Jean-Luc Godard's and his film « A bout de souffle » (Breathless) or François Truffaut ans his « Tirez sur le pianiste » (Shoot the Pianist), to the longevity of French quality films by Claude Autant-Lara or Jean Delannoy, directors against whom the French New Wave was created. Let’s not forget about actors and actresses such as Michèle Morgan, Alain Delon, Jean-Paul Belmondo, Micheline Presle, Jean Gabin, Serge Reggiani or Annie Girardot. All the emblematic actors of that time appear in the lens of the photographer who captured them on set or resting between two takes. The Roger-Viollet agency, who acquired the photographer's collection in 1990, has been digitizing over 12,000 negatives so far.
