A photographic chronology from the collection of the Excelsior newspaper, most of the pictures are unpublished since their initial publication. Even if reporters are not so close to the fight, the images eloquently testify to the pervasiveness of the conflict in all aspects of French life: the front line, troop transports and the role of foreign and colonial soldiers, but also daily life, work and the war effort, the role of women, material and human destruction, political life and national solidarity.
