Overview of the exhibition
At the turn of the two centuries, the Universal Exhibition made Paris shine with its pavilions, each more flamboyant than the last. Visitors from all over the world put on their finery and strolled from the Alexandre III bridge to the Eiffel Tower. On Sundays, gamblers and elegant women went to the Longchamp or Auteuil racetracks in horse-drawn carriages. The City of Light became the symbol of luxury and the French art of living. Activity was in full swing on the quays of Bercy. At Les Halles, ""the belly of Paris"", merchants and beggars cross paths in the middle of the Halles forts. Life abounds in the French capital, day and night! This beautiful era is photographed by different photographers from our collection such as Léon & Lévy, Neurdein, Albert Harlingue, Maurice-Louis Branger, Jacques Boyer or Henri Roger. Presented at the Roger-Viollet Gallery from July 1st to August 28th 2021.
